The etymological origin of ''Almodóvar'' is the (アラビア語:المدوّر), ''al-mudawwar'', "round, circular (place)". Almodóvar was a Moorish fortress in the Middle Ages. It owes its modern prosperity to the nearness of the valuable Puertollano coal-field. Its manufactures include lace and linen and it has a trade in livestock, oil and wine.
